Thanksgiving 2010

Murray, Suzanne, Jerilu, Steve, and Tammy joined us for Thanksgiving. Murray has the turkey roasting down...the best ever this year. Suzi and I met the Reimuller clan for shopping at the local craft fair. We had some goodies from Franny's bakery and then brew at the upscale new bar.

bisque load

I realize that most of you have already seen this pic on fb, but I put it here, too. I still haven't started glazing. I'm going to mix up a new grape glaze for the grapes that I put on some pitchers.
I went up to Dan's to get grapes and leaves to make a mold. I'm trying out stuff I learned at SD, but finding it harder than I thought to get the kind of pro job the presenters were doing. I'll try some of the inherited gold on some of these pieces.

San Diego pottery workshop

I had great tequila lime shrimp at the Cafe Coyote in Old Town just a few blocks from my hotel.
This Kristen Keiffer cup sells for $30 (she sold out all she brought to the workshop) and no I didn't buy one because I spent my money on wine and shrimps. But her design techniques are not as hard and they looked to me when I saw her work in magazines....So we shall see....

I am proud to be in this community.

About 70 people from our area went to Ukiah to encourage the Board of Supervisors to continue the county's support of the interlibrary loan system between Sonoma, Mendocino, and Lake counties. Also, since the current county librarian is leaving, they are saying they will not replace her. The community owns the building and many of the books, but the county supplies the internet service and loan system with outside libraries which is vital to our area. Mendocino county is broke, so they are looking at all of the ways to trim expenses and our library was one of them. Well, they are giving at least until July and were quite impressed to see so many people fill their room and tell of their love and need for the library. One supervisor said that this was the most people he has seen come for a cause. Many of the 20 or so who went to the mike to speak I recognized, but had never heard them talk before. I live in a pretty smart, caring town. Alix Levine is the current president of our library.

Making up for lack of photos

I'm getting ready for a bisque firing, stuff on shelves are dry.
One of Don's many wood piles...let the cold, rainy days come!
Don is finishing the added step to my studio. No more concerns about slipping on the high step.

So sorry that it's been so long

It is a good garden time. Lots of green beans, broccoli, tomatoes, now the carrots are big enough to eat. We've had lots of pears, apples, raspberries, (the quail and birds have enjoyed the strawberries...a bite out of each one.
Don continues to pick up trash on the beach always coming home with a full back pack.
In case you didn't see the pic on facebook Murray came for a ride.
My camera doesn't work and I'm using Don's which has me confused about loading the pictures on my computer. I don't know how to just put on recent photos...it loads all every time. I get frustrated and just go to bed.

Latest pottery attempts

Unfortunately, Ryan's drawing on the plate did not come out, because of the 'clear' glaze that I put on top. It was not clear. That is a definite do over. Sophia's plate is ok, but I'd like to try again. The glaze was supposed to be lavendar but came out blue. Sophia's prints will be larger, but I'm hoping to take some clay next week and try again. Do one for Myla, too.
The gold that I added to the red pot was a success, I felt.

New Posts

Don is doing 'house' work....painting the front side of the house. He does an excellent job.
Disaster bowl...too much glaze on the bottom, so it ran off and stuck to the shelf. An ongoing problem for me...Will I ever get it down? So no bowls to put in the Art in the Redwoods. The cups came out fine.
My purple broccoli plant is so lovely that I wanted to shown it off.

Felicia came for the weekend..

Felicia and I stopped at Greenwood Pier on our way to Mendo. It was a fun visit.

Camping at Iron Canyon

Don and I (Brenda....I think I'm entered at Felicia?) went for a quick camping trip to Iron Canyon. The lake was very high and full of pine needles and shore debris, but still fun to take a swim. Don caught 5 trout that Felicia and I enjoyed for dinner when we got home and she came for the weekend. The mosquitoes were awful.
